I canceled my HP InstantInk subscription, after which HP billed me a final billing and now I get an email saying HP will send me another bill through January 6. Is this not fraud? Very unhappy with HP’s service practices.

Hi @GregC7,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I’m really sorry for the frustration this has caused. I understand why receiving another billing notice after cancellation would feel upsetting, and I appreciate you raising it.

To clarify how HP Instant Ink billing works (and to reassure you that this is not fraud):

  • Instant Ink is billed by pages, not cartridges, and billing is done in arrears.
  • When you cancel the subscription, HP issues a final bill for:
    • Pages already printed but not yet billed, and/or
    • Any overage pages used before the cancellation date.
  • The email mentioning billing through January 6 typically refers to the end of the last billing cycle, not a new or ongoing charge after cancellation.
  • After that final cycle closes and the balance is settled, no further charges should occur, and ink shipments stop.

That said, if the charges do not align with your usage or if you believe you’re being billed incorrectly, we absolutely want to look into it for you.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I am enrolled in the HP Smart, instant ink plan.  I ran low on yellow ink two months ago.  I requested replacement cartridges a few times in the last couple of months.  Ai tells me it is on the way and then when I don't get, I look in the app. and told that i don't need yet.  I have tried to get to a real person the get service.  In the past the service worked because they supplied me with extra cartridges as replacements.  But, something changed and they are not giving me the extras as backup.  I continued to be billed but only can print black for the last 30 days, due to being out of color.   Today I canceled my membership to HP Smart, instant ink plan.  I will purchase my own cartridges from now on.  The instant ink plan Ai service is not good.

I agree.  I have been unable to get service.  Ai is not good.  Have not been able to get to a live person.
