Hi @ashleybautista,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've recently purchased a new ink cartridge for your HP printer and it doesn't seem to be working or feels dried out, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Check Expiry Date: Ensure that the ink cartridge is not expired. Ink cartridges have a limited shelf life, and using an expired cartridge may lead to printing issues.
  • Remove and Reinstall: Take out the ink cartridge and reinstall it. Make sure it is securely seated in its designated slot. Sometimes, improper installation can lead to printing problems.
  • Shake the Cartridge: Gently shake the ink cartridge to distribute the ink evenly. This can help if the ink has settled or if there are air bubbles affecting the print quality.
  • Clean the Print Heads: Your printer might have an option to clean the print heads. Refer to your printer's manual on how to access and use this feature. Cleaning the print heads can help to improve print quality.
  • Run a Test Print: Most printers have a self-test or diagnostic page that you can print. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to do this. If the test page prints correctly, the issue may be with the document or file you are trying to print.
  • Check for Protective Strips: Some ink cartridges have protective strips or tapes that need to be removed before use. Ensure that you have removed any protective coverings from the cartridge.
  • Store Properly: If you've had the ink cartridge for a while before using it, make sure it was stored in the correct conditions. Ink cartridges should be stored in a cool, dry place.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
