What does the HP App or HP Smart report the ink levels to be? Do they match that the billing says?
Improve Print Quality on HP ENVY 6430e When Ink Levels Show as Good
Even if the ink levels appear sufficient, print quality issues can still occur. A good first step is to isolate whether the problem is with the printer hardware or with the computer/software.
1. Print a Test Page from the Printer Itself
This checks the printer hardware directly.
- Make sure the printer is turned on.
- Load plain white paper:
- Align a stack of paper by tapping it on a flat surface.
- Pull/slide out the input tray.
- Load paper into the input tray until it stops.
- Slide the paper width guide(s) inward until they rest at the edge of the paper, without bending it.
- Push/slide the tray back into the printer.
- From the printer control panel:
- Touch or press the Setup icon (looks like a small wrench) or use the down arrow to open the menu.
- Select Tools.
- Select Printer Status Report.
A test page/status report prints.
2. Interpret the Test Page
If the test page prints clearly (no smearing, missing lines, or streaks):
The printer hardware is likely working correctly. Poor quality from your computer may be due to:- Connection issues
- Computer problems
- Printing software/settings
If the test page shows smearing, lines, or other print defects:
Other documents will likely have the same issue, which indicates a printer-side problem (for example, printhead or ink delivery issues).
In either case, the test page also provides useful information such as:
- Model name
- Serial number
- Firmware version
- Ink levels and other details helpful for troubleshooting
