The color cartridge has had missing magenta nozzles since the first color print. I ran multiple printhead cleaning cycles and printed a Print Quality Report, but the magenta test pattern is still defective

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

Here are the requested details:

  • Printer model: HP DeskJet 2922 All-in-One Wireless Printer
  • Cartridge: Genuine HP Instant Ink cartridge
  • The cartridge was newly installed.
  • The magenta color has been missing since the very first color print.
  • The issue affects all color prints.

I have already:

  • Removed and reinstalled the cartridge.
  • Verified that all protective tape was removed.
  • Cleaned the cartridge electrical contacts.
  • Performed multiple Printhead Cleaning cycles.
  • Performed Printhead Alignment.
  • Printed several Print Quality Reports.

Unfortunately, the magenta test pattern is still defective, as shown in the attached Print Quality Report.

Since this is a genuine HP Instant Ink cartridge and the issue has existed since the first color print, I believe the cartridge may be defective. Could you please arrange a replacement color cartridge under the Instant Ink service?

Thank you.

Hi  @Mos123,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how it can be when your prints are not coming out with the expected quality, especially when you've already performed multiple printhead cleaning cycles and the magenta color is still missing.

Could you kindly share the below details :

  • What is the exact HP printer model?
  • Is the color cartridge a genuine HP cartridge or a third-party/refilled cartridge?
  • Was the cartridge newly installed, or has it been in use for some time?
  • Is the issue affecting all color prints or only specific documents/images?
  • Could you share a picture of the Print Quality Report, particularly the section where the magenta test pattern appears defective?

In the meantime, Kindly try the below steps and confirm:

  1. Remove and Reinstall the Color Cartridge
    Turn the printer on.
Remove the color cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape or packaging material that may still be attached.
Reinstall the cartridge securely and ensure it clicks into place.
  2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
Power off the printer and remove the color cartridge.
Using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water, gently clean the copper-colored electrical contacts on the cartridge.
Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling.
  3. Perform Printhead Alignment
From the printer's maintenance or tools menu, run the Printhead Alignment utility.
Print another test page and check if the magenta pattern improves.
  4. Check Ink Levels
Verify that the color cartridge has sufficient ink remaining.
In some cases, a defective cartridge may exhibit missing colors even when ink levels appear adequate.

Once you share the printer model and the Print Quality Report, I'll be happy to provide more specific further steps.

I hope this helps.
