Mmy sister gifted me her printer HP smart OfficeJet since she got a new one, and I have restarted the printer. She’s deleted the printer from her account. She’s canceled the ink subscription. I’ve already set up the ink subscription and I’m still not able to connect. It’s giving me the error that this printer is tied up with another account even though she has already deleted it and I’m still having trouble connecting to it

@Ariana1998, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It seems you are encountering issues with connecting your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 printer after your sister transferred it to you. The printer appears to be still linked to her HP account despite her deleting it. Here are steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Ensure Proper Account Deletion:

  • Verify that your sister has indeed deleted the printer from her account. She should log into her HP Instant Ink account and ensure the printer is no longer listed.

Re-register the Printer:

  • Try re-registering the printer to your own HP Instant Ink account. Ensure that you follow any prompts and instructions provided by HP Smart app that might help in re-registering under your account.

Reset the Printer Settings:

  • Perform a factory reset of the printer settings to ensure that prior account associations are removed. Usually, you can find reset options in the printer settings menu.
  • After resetting, set up the printer once again, following the setup instructions for HP Smart app.

Check HP Smart Account:

  • Make sure you are signed into your HP Smart account when trying to connect the printer. You may need to re-sync your account to recognize the printer correctly.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
