HI @Charlotte9279,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY 5544 All-in-One printer is producing prints with incorrect colors (like brown and red instead of true colors) while using Chrome OS, and you've already performed basic troubleshooting and cleaning, here are some more detailed steps to diagnose and fix the issue:
1. Check Ink Cartridges
- Verify Cartridge Status: Make sure that all ink cartridges are properly installed and have sufficient ink. Check for any warnings or low ink alerts.
- Replace Cartridges: If any cartridges are empty or low on ink, replace them with new, genuine HP cartridges.
2. Perform a Print Head Alignment
Access Printer Settings:
- On your Chrome OS device, open the Settings app.
- Go to Advanced > Printing > Printers.
- Select your HP ENVY 5544 from the list of printers.
Run Alignment:
- Open the HP Smart app (if installed) or use the printer’s control panel.
- Look for the Tools or Maintenance section and select Align Printheads. Follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Check Color Settings
- Print Settings: Ensure that the print settings are configured for color printing:
- Open the document or image you want to print.
- Go to the print dialog by selecting File > Print.
- Check the print settings and make sure Color is selected (not Grayscale or Black & White).
4. Perform a Print Head Cleaning
Access Cleaning Options:
- Open the HP Smart app or printer control panel.
- Go to Tools or Maintenance and select Clean Printheads.
Follow Instructions:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to clean the print heads. This may involve several cleaning cycles.
5. Update Printer Firmware
- Check for Updates:
- Open the HP Smart app or use the printer’s control panel to check for firmware updates.
- If updates are available, follow the instructions to install them.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
