Common problems for INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER

I have just received the same email, I have not even used the sample cartridges yet!! At least I am on the free ink for a few months.

But 50% is an incredibly large increase. Will rethink after my trial period.

Sorry Alan, as much as I'm hacked off with this particular price rise and will be acting accordingly, I disagree with the idea that I'm paying in advance for the cartridges. The printers are obviously sold at a loss to generate long term highly profitable ink revenue. I can choose which ink consumption model I want - if it was instant ink ONLY and my printer is then useless I would agree with you.

But my first month of Instant Ink was 1.99 and I got maybe £40 worth of cartridges at that time. So I'm not the one who has paid up front. I am PAYG and if I stop subscribing after 1 month, I don't expect to get the remaining £38 worth of ink for free.

@Lohr500 Yeah that would be breaking the terms of your contract and effectively illegal (not that I imagine it would ever end up in court). I don't imagine that post would last long if it's even technically possible.

@progrod Would be interesting to know the contribution of Instant Ink vs traditional ink sales towards that 3.65bn

I too have received notification that my £3.49 plan for 100 pages is to increase to £4.49. I think this price increase is unacceptable and equates (I think) to a 28% increase. I am certainly rethinking my contract and printer choice. I was one of the original people trialling the scheme before it was released to the world. I do not think they can justify this increase especially with other price increases being placed on our lives.

This is certainly greedy. It would be good for HP to offer us discounts for the loyal service we have given over the years. As one of the triallists before the scheme was released to everyone I am disappointed and will be moving to another nanufacturer if this is implemented.

I've now canceled my subscription. I hope others protesting in this thread will do the same and also spread the word. Actions like this should be criminal.

I have just sent an email to the CEO of HP, Enrique Lores. I am not sure if this will help but you never know.

I have never done this before and I do hope it helps in some way, what might also help if more people sent an email to him.

His email address is enrique.lores@hp.com

I have also stated talking about this increase on other sites, the more people we have talking about this the better.

Hi Choddo,

As much as it pains me, you are correct. Of course there's a lot of whinging, and rightly so, about the level of the increase. However, as you say, we have not bought any cartridges, only the right to print 50 pages per month (or whatever plans you chose). You might print 50 pages with two word of plain text, or you might print 50 pages of A4 sized Hi Res photos. They simply supply the cartridges to allow you to achieve that.

If we're going to have any case against HP for such a dramatic price increase, we should at least be getting our side of the story right.

All too often people whine about stuff, but we pretty much always have agreed to such stuff in the T&Cs when we sign up.
