HP OfficeJet 5258 All-in-One Printer

Every time I print anything or try to print anything I get a message with 3 dots in the corner(I assume this means the color cartridge) saying "The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer. If this problem persists, replace the cartridges."

I tried removing and cleaning both cartridges manually but this did not solve anything. Since I have instant ink I don't know what I'm supposed to do with this I can't just replace the cartridge?

Hi @Terophorm,

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that your printer is not communicating with the Instant ink cartridge. I'd like to help!

let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Reset the printer:

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware:

  • Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, perform step 3 from this document.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted.

Hi @kvfdez,

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that your printer is not communicating with the ink cartridge. I'd like to help!

Are you enrolled in the instant ink program?
Have you done any changes to your printer or software?
Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges?

May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Meanwhile, you may follow the steps from this document here and see how it goes.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Yes i'm enrolled in the instant ink program. And yes i'm using the genuine cartridges(you sent them to me). I did everything and nothing worked, I think the color ink is the problem.
