Printer will not print

HP Officejet PRO 8620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer stopped printing. I'm using HP Instant ink, and the message displayed  is "the printer could not connect to the internet". Tried wireless and ethernet  connections and I'm getting  valid IP addresses. I suspect that the ink cartridges or the reporting software is faulty  since even with a usb connection it still complains about the ethernet. Plus  I have not received new cartridges recently and the print  quality is rather faded.  Any suggestions  would be appreciated.
