HP DeskJet Plus 4122 All-in-One Printer

Hi

My work colleague bought this printer, HP DeskJet Plus 4122 to use from home and has now given it to me. There are two full ink cartridges in the printer however when I try to print the app is saying 'This printer is not enrolled in HP instant  ink' and it is saying' to use the installed HP instant ink cartridges, the printer must be enrolled.'

Does this mean that I cannot use the ink at all without paying for a subscription? I cannot do this as it is for work and even so, it seems shocking that HP are blocking the use of ink that has been paid for already and not used. Is there a way to disable or by pass this? Or can I enrol the printer without paying for a subscription service?

If the answer is no to all of the above, can I buy other ink to sue with this printer? And does it have to be HP ink?

My colleague says they have not paid for the subscription service either and they bought ink form a different shop and managed to use the printer which has left me thinking there must be another way to be able to use the ink then?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, C.

Are the currently installed cartridges HP Instant Ink cartridges?  If so you will need to replace the cartridges with retail cartridges.  When you (or the previous owner) sign up for the Instant Ink program you are NOT purchasing ink, you are purchasing a subscription to a set number of pages per month.  The ink is supplied, but remains the property of HP and must be returned if you cancel the program in accordance with the terms of service.  See sections 5.d and 9.c of the terms of service here.

The previous owner didn't sign up for instant ink as the printer was bought from a work account so she would not have been able to do that. She said she bought the ink from Currys, a shop in the UK. Would they sell the instant ink or is this only supplied from HP? She was able to print using the ink that is in the printer without being subscribed that is why I am confused as to why I am getting a message saying it is blocked because of the instant ink. How can I check what the ink is please?

Thanks

Please remove the cartridges and inspect the label.  Can you take a picture of label on top of the cartridges and post them here (using the photo icon when replying to a post)?  Does the cartridge say "Instant Ink" or "Instant Ink Ready?  What is the cartridge number?
