Common problems for INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Instant Ink. Check out this link: HP INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER. .

My printer worked fine until I cancelled Instant Ink. Ever since I have had all sorts of problems, from going offline, to "load paper tray" when it is full,  to paper jams. It has been taking me an extra hour a day just to get things to print. I believe my printer has been compromised because of Instant Ink. I am using HP ink that I purchased locally, so it is not a problem with the ink. I now have something like $150 worth of ink that it seems I can't use half of due to having to purchase a new printer. Believe me, it will NOT be HP.

Hi @MadCust

Welcome to the HP Support Community! Thanks for posting your query!

I hear how frustrating this has been for you, especially when printing used to be straightforward and now feels like a daily struggle.

I want to reassure you that the issues you’re describing—offline status, paper feed errors, and jams—are not caused by cancelling Instant Ink. The subscription only affects how ink is billed and delivered; it does not alter the printer’s hardware or functionality.

Since you’re using genuine HP cartridges purchased locally, the ink itself is not the source of the problem either.

To help isolate what’s happening, I’ll need to gather some details first:

  • Which exact printer model are you using?
  • When the printer shows “load paper tray,” is the paper stacked correctly and aligned with the guides?
  • Do the paper jams occur during every print job, or only occasionally?
  • Is the printer connected via Wi‑Fi or USB when it goes offline?
  • Have you noticed any error codes or lights on the control panel besides the paper tray message?
  • Was the printer stored or moved recently, or has it been in continuous use?

Once I have this information, I’ll be able to guide you with precise steps tailored to your setup. Could you share those details with me?

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
