Have also been dealing with this problem for over a month.  After checking, aligning and cleaning several times, I brought the XL934 black ink cartridge that I could not get to work back to Staples.  They gave me a new one, but this one does not put ink on paper either.  Color cartridges are working fine.

 

I'm wondering if there's a whole batch of bad cartridges out there.  My next step is returning this cartridge to Staples also and trying one of the smaller ones, just for comparison.  I hope HP will address this.
