I have a new printer - 6420e - which only prints in black or shades of grey. The document is from an Excel spreadsheet on an Apple Mac, and the operating system is fully up to date, e.g. Big Sur 11.6.5.

@Bernadette0410, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I see that you are not able to print in color from your Mac.
- Which application are you trying to print from?
- Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
Try making a standalone copy in color from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issues

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
