My HP printer Envy 5530e ink distribution got clogged (otherwise it works well) and I decided to get a new printer.  The new printer (HP Envy 6155e) is connected to Instant Ink.  I am now trying to recycle or give away the old printer.  I have followed all the instructions to reset it to factory settings, disconnect it from internet, etc.

The problem is with my HP account dashboard.  It only shows the NEW printer as CONNECTED to HP, but still shows the old one as an option on the account.  I don't want to give away or recycle this printer unless I can get it OFF my account completely.  I have searched this forum and have followed all the accepted instructions, but clicking on the old printer on the dashboard gives no option to delete it from the account.

Hi @CautiousRecycle,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for explaining the situation clearly. You’ve done the right steps by resetting the old printer and disconnecting it from the internet, but I understand how frustrating it is when the HP account dashboard still shows the old printer.

Steps to Remove a Printer from Your HP Account

1. Sign in to HP Smart / HP Account

  • Go to HP Smart Dashboard and log in with your HP account credentials.

2. Remove the Printer

  • Click on the old printer in the dashboard.
  • Look for Settings or Manage.
  • Select Remove Printer or Unlink Printer.
  • Confirm the removal.

3. If No Option Appears

Sometimes, if the printer was enrolled in HP Instant Ink, you must cancel the Instant Ink subscription first:

4. Clear HP  App Cache (macOS)

If you’re using the HP app on macOS:

  • Quit the app.
  • Go to Library > Application Support > HP app and clear cache.
  • Restart the app and sign in again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
