Using MacOS system. Network connection v good. Using HP Instant Ink cartridge plan. Printer message = "cannot print, connect printer to update HP Instant Ink status". Wireless icon showing correct network and product data. I've checked everything and the messages go round in circles, always indicating connection should be ok, but comes back to the message - "connect printer to update Instant Ink Status"  New cartridges were installed a month ago and have been working properly - until last week!! Help!!

Hi @Frustrated_1953

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for clearly outlining the situation. The printer is showing a message that it cannot connect to update the HP Instant Ink status, even though your Mac and network connection are working well.

Let’s go through the steps to restore the connection:

Restart Devices

  • Power off the printer, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
  • Restart your Mac and wireless router as well.

Check Printer Connection in HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Mac.
  • Ensure the printer is added and shows as “Ready.”
  • If not, remove the printer and add it again using the “+” option.

Verify Internet Access from Printer

  • On the printer’s control panel, open Wireless Settings.
  • Run the Wireless Network Test to confirm the printer is connected to your Wi‑Fi.
  • If needed, reconnect by selecting your Wi‑Fi network and entering the password.

Update Printer Firmware

  • In the HP App, go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Printer Update.
  • Install any available updates to ensure Instant Ink communication works correctly.

Sync Instant Ink Status

  • In the HP App, select Instant Ink.
  • Sign in with your HP account credentials.
  • Allow the printer to connect and refresh the subscription status.

Run Diagnose & Fix

  • In the HP App, open Support Tools > Diagnose & Fix.
  • This will automatically check for connectivity issues and repair them.

Summary:
Your printer is unable to update its Instant Ink status despite a good network connection. Restarting devices, verifying Wi‑Fi, updating firmware, and using the HP App’s Diagnose & Fix tool are the recommended steps. Following these should re‑establish communication with the Instant Ink service and allow printing to resume.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
