I would like to place a shortcut on by desk top for HP Smart, but I cannot find a software location to copy the link. Does anyone have suggestions?

The app is not meant to be added to your Desktop.  It can be done -- sort of -- the access is not straight forward, the result is messy, and the shortcut breaks easily (as often as the app updates itself).

Personally, based on my experience tugging on this stubborn string, I suggest you abandon the desktop shortcut icon idea and settle for adding the HP Smart app to your Windows Start menu and to your Taskbar.

Adding the app to the Taskbar is supported and easy to do.

Windows 10 / Windows 11

Windows Start > Search for “HP Smart

Pin to Start

and

Pin to Taskbar
