HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer

Hello, I cancelled my instant ink subscription with you guys last week. I bought a printer, pay a monthly subscription and then get charged extra for printing more pages than you’ll allow. We homeschool so we print daily. While paying the monthly subscription and ‘fees’ for printing too much, I was being sent paper but never an ink cartridge. I had to buy my own ink, and once installed into the printer, my printer is now saying I can’t print unless I have an active subscription. I need help getting around this error and using the item I have already paid for, for its intended purpose. Without HP telling me I need to pay more money a month to use it.

Hi @kathrynokelley,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e is locked due to the Instant Ink subscription cancellation. HP Instant Ink cartridges are subscription-based and stop working when the subscription is canceled. However, you should be able to use your own purchased ink cartridges.

1. Remove HP Instant Ink Cartridges

  • If you are using Instant Ink subscription cartridges, they will no longer work after canceling your plan.
  • Replace them with standard HP retail cartridges (non-Instant Ink).

2. Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from power for 2 minutes.
  2. Plug it back in and turn it on again.
  3. Check if the printer recognizes your new cartridges.

3. Check Printer Settings

  • On the Printer Menu, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults
  • Reinstall cartridges after restart

4. Reinstall HP Smart & Drivers

  • Uninstall HP Smart from your computer.
  • Download & install the latest HP drivers from HP's official site.

5. Bypass the Instant Ink Subscription Requirement

  • If your printer still does not recognize your new cartridges, reset the printer to factory settings: refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults
