Common problems for INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER

I have my printer added in the HP Smart app on my computer. When I click "Get Supplies" this screen pops up:

I have no idea what other account it would be. I just completed a factory reset on the printer. Then I reconnected it to Wi-Fi and to the app thinking that might fix it, but sadly it did not.

I was in the middle of a chat with an agent and got disconnected and don't have the patience to go through that again or to get on the phone with someone because I might not be nice and I don't like being rude to customer service people simply doing their jobs 🙂

Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated !!!

I just want to be able to print! This whole instant ink seems more of a pain than it's worth sometimes. If I can't figure this out, I'm just going to fork over the pretty penny it costs to buy the cartridges outright, so I don't need to pay whenever I want to use my printer.

Hi @mbanister,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the details and the screenshot. It really helps clarify the situation. The message “This printer is enrolled to another Instant Ink account and can’t be enrolled yet” means that HP’s servers still recognize your printer as linked to a previous Instant Ink subscription, even after the factory reset. Unfortunately, the reset only clears local settings, not the enrollment status stored in HP’s cloud.

Steps to Fix It

  1. Check Your HP Account
    • Log in to HP Instant Ink with any email you might have used.
    • See if the printer appears under My Printers.
    • If yes, cancel the subscription from there.

  2. Alternative: Use Standard Cartridges
    • If you don’t want Instant Ink anymore, you can buy regular HP cartridges.
    • Make sure they are non-Instant Ink cartridges (retail versions).
    • Once installed, the printer will work without a subscription.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
