HP OfficeJet 6950 All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.15 Catalina

The HP Instants Account to which this printer is registered was opened and maintained by me on behalf of a local charitable organisation to which I belong. I volunteer and print & distribute their newsletters. The printer belongs to the local organisation.

The role is being taken over by another member and the printer will be transferred to him.

The HP Instant account is registered to my email address - which cannot be amended, I don't think.

I can easily change the billing/payment method from my personal PayPal account to another method and I think  I can change the address on the account.

Can this HP Instants account be transferred to the new volunteer (registering with his email address or perhaps to the local organisation's email address)?

Alternatively, I could cancel this account and he opens a new account if he wishes.

In this case, will the existing HP Instants cartridges that I possess for this account/printer continue to work?

Section 6.e of the Instant Ink Terms of Service for the UK says:

No transfer of Service. You cannot transfer Your Service to another individual or legal entity.

Based on this you will probably need to cancel the service and reinstate it under the new name (or perhaps the name and email of the entity).  There are some side effects of canceling the account:

  • The Instant Ink cartridges will stop working at the end of the subscription.
  • Rollover pages will be lost.

I would suggest contacting HP Instant Ink Support at the number listed near the top of the page in the terms of service document, just below the address.  They may be able to assist in a smoother transition.  You may be able to cancel the account, effective immediately, and then open the new account at the same time to minimize downtime.
