Hi @Kcaldwell85,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing trouble connecting your HP OfficeJet 6978 printer to the ePrint service to set up HP Instant Ink. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Restart Your Printer and Network Devices:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Restart your router and modem by unplugging them for about 30 seconds and then plugging them back in.
  • After your network devices are back online, plug in and turn on your printer and try connecting again.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network. Check the wireless settings on your printer to confirm it's connected to the correct network.
  • If your printer is not connected or keeps dropping the connection, try moving it closer to your router or eliminating any potential interference sources.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Outdated firmware can cause connection issues. Check if there are any updates available for your printer’s firmware and install them. You can usually find this option in the printer's settings under 'Printer Maintenance' or 'About'.

Enable Web Services:

  • ePrint requires Web Services to be enabled on your printer. Navigate to the Web Services setup in your printer's menu to ensure it's turned on. If it’s already on but not working, consider turning it off and on again to reset.

Check HP Connected for Service Status:

  • Visit the HP Connected website to check if there are any service disruptions that might be affecting ePrint functionality.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
