Common problems for INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Instant Ink. Check out this link: HP INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER. .

I want to know if it is true I can continue to use any pages in your rollover balance if I pause my subscription. The support instructions say so, but the actual information on the "Pause" page says I can use only 10 pages a month while paused. I have an Instant Ink account for 300 pages monthly.

Hi @schoenml,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for your question, and I completely understand why that wording feels confusing. Let’s clarify how rollover pages and pausing your HP Instant Ink subscription actually work.

What happens when you pause your Instant Ink plan

When you pause your Instant Ink subscription:

  • You will not be billed for your monthly plan fee while paused.
  • Your rollover page balance is not consumed while paused.
  • However, you do not have full Instant Ink coverage while paused.
  • Instead, you are allowed to print up to 10 pages per month using Instant Ink; this is considered a pause-mode allowance, not your full plan benefit.

So in pause mode:
👉 You can print up to 10 pages per month, regardless of how many rollover pages you have.
👉 Your large rollover balance cannot be used while paused.

This is different from being on your plan, where:

  • You pay your monthly fee (e.g., for 300 pages)
  • You can use both your monthly allotment and any available rollover pages

Why does it work this way

Instant Ink is designed to keep you printing consistently on a paid plan.
When you pause:

  • The plan itself is suspended
  • Only a minimal print allowance remains

That’s why the Pause page correctly states you can use 10 pages, even if your online support instructions may mention rollover in a general sense.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Very helpful, Vikram...i think it is very important that HP correct its various pages.  This, for example, is a verbatim quote from another HP Support agent, Sneha_01 and the Instant Ink account management page (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3259778-1993151-16).

"...During a subscription pause, your normal plan and monthly fees are suspended. You can continue to use any pages in your rollover balance."

To not be able to rely on these sources is, to say the least, unprofessional and disconcerting.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi @schoenml,

Thank you for your message and for bringing this to our attention. We sincerely apologize for any confusion caused by conflicting information on our support pages. We understand how important it is to have clear guidance regarding your HP Instant Ink subscription.

Here’s how Instant Ink works during a pause:

  1. Subscription Fees: When you pause your Instant Ink subscription, your monthly plan fees are temporarily suspended. You will not be billed while the subscription is paused.

  2. Printing During Pause: While your subscription is paused, you can print up to 10 pages per month. This allows you limited printing while you are not actively paying for your plan.

  3. Rollover Pages: Any pages that were in your rollover balance prior to pausing the subscription remain available for use. These pages do not expire while your subscription is paused.

  4. Resuming the Subscription: When you resume your subscription, your plan fees will restart, and your new monthly page allowance will be reinstated. Any unused rollover pages from before the pause will still be available to use.

We recognize that some support articles may not clearly explain the “10-page limit during pause,” and we appreciate your patience as we work to clarify this information for all customers.

Thank you for being a valued HP customer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi, Vikram,

Thanks again, and yes, I understood your explanation the first time--it was very clear! My only point in replying to it is that the mis0information remains and needs to be cleared up.

Best wishes for a good New Year (as AI as that sounds)
