I have just bought the HP Smart tank 7005, thinking it was eligible for the HP instant ink subscription. 

Can anyone explained to me why the smart tank 7005 is not eligible and what makes it a "smart tank"

I see that you are looking for information related to instant ink compatibility for your printer.

 

HP Instant Ink is based on the pages you print, not cartridges or shipments you receive.

 

HP smart tank printers use tanks to store ink and instant ink can only work with printers use ink cartridges.
