This product is incredibly disappointing. I have HP color laserjet m283cdw and it DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO SCAN DOUBLE-SIDED DOCUMENTS. This is incredibly inefficient and surprising given it is 2023 and scanners have been able to do this for decades now. I have to manually scan a double-sided 45 page document twice (one for the front side and one for the back) and then manually rearrange the page numbers so that they are in order. This is an INCREDIBLE waste of my time and it is startling that HP has not figured out by now how to bring its products into the 21st century. Thanks for nothing you useless scumbags that only like to take people's money. This product sucks and is a huge waste of time and I will never make an HP purchase like this again, nor will I recommend HP products to any of my business associates.

Hi @Idontlikethispr,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP Color LaserJet Pro M283cdw is a multifunction printer that supports printing, scanning, copying, and faxing. However, it is not equipped with an automatic document feeder (ADF) capable of scanning double-sided documents automatically. If you want to scan double-sided documents with this printer, you will need to do so manually using its flatbed scanner.
Here are the general steps to manually scan double-sided documents.
- Prepare your documents: Ensure that the pages of your double-sided document are in the correct order and that any staples or bindings are removed.
- Load the first page: Lift the scanner lid and place the first page face down on the flatbed glass, aligning it with the corner guides.
- Scan the first side: Use the printer's control panel or the associated scanning software on your computer to initiate the scan of the first side of the document. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust scan settings if necessary.
- Remove the first page: After scanning the first side, carefully remove the page from the flatbed glass.
- Load the second page: Flip the page over and place it back on the flatbed glass, aligning it with the corner guides.
- Scan the second side: Again, use the printer's control panel or scanning software to initiate the scan of the second side of the document.
- Save or send the scanned document: Once both sides are scanned, you can save the scanned document to your computer or send it to a desired destination (email, cloud storage, etc.) using the scanning software.
Repeat these steps for each double-sided document you need to scan manually. While this method requires some manual effort, it allows you to scan double-sided documents with a printer that lacks an automatic double-sided scanning feature.
If you frequently need to scan a large number of double-sided documents, you may consider investing in a scanner with an ADF capable of handling double-sided scanning, as it can save you time and effort.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
