Hi @Rowie429,

Thanks for posting your question! 😊
If you print only every 3–4 months, it’s completely normal to feel like the ink runs out fast. Here’s why it happens:

Why the ink seems to finish quickly

Ink dries inside the cartridges and printhead when not used regularly.

When the printer runs cleaning cycles to unclog dried ink, it uses ink to clean the nozzles.

So even if you don’t print much, ink is being used to keep the printer ready to print.

How to reduce ink loss

Print a small page once every 2–3 weeks (even a simple color logo).

Keep the printer plugged in, so it maintains itself efficiently.

Avoid turning the printer on/off frequently.

HP Instant Ink is a subscription where you pay for pages printed, not ink used.

How the free/low-cost plan works

You pick a plan (including very low-cost or free trial offers if available).

HP sends you ink before you run out.

You print a set number of pages per month.

Unused pages roll over to the next month (in most plans).

You don’t pay for ink bottles or cartridges, just the plan.

Benefits for light users

You’re charged for pages, even if they are full color or photos.

No waste from dried cartridges because HP replaces ink automatically as needed.

If you print occasionally, Instant Ink can be the most cost-effective option, especially compared to buying full cartridges that dry out.

Let me know if you’d like help checking whether your printer supports it. 😊
