When HP tell us to leave the printer powered on, is it really necessary to leave it on 24/7, or will daytime only suffice?

@EricEP, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
You do not have to keep the printer powered on for 24 hrs of the day. It is just that, it is necessary for the printer to be connected to the Instant Ink server to monitor the printer status.
If the printer is not connected to the internet, you will not be able to print and the Instant Ink server cannot know how many pages you have printed or monitor the ink levels.
I hope this answers your query adequately.
