i installed a black instant ink cartridge when my old one was out of ink. HP sent an acknowledgement email. I printed a Word document, but the HP Smart app didn't show the full ink level, so I unplugged the printer. Now it won't print anything.

@teresalaro, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Have you subscribed to HP’s Instant Ink plan, and is the subscription currently active?
Sometimes if the subscription is inactive or there's an issue with your account, the Instant Ink cartridges won’t work—even if they’re full—because they require an active connection to HP’s service.
Let me know so I can help you troubleshoot further.
Meanwhile, try these steps:
Restart the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Wait for 60 seconds and connect the power cord back in.
- Turn on the printer.
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
- Refer: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
