Hi @ineed67help,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error you're seeing, "connect printer to update HP Instant Ink status," likely occurred after you installed the new modem and disrupted the printer's connection to the HP Instant Ink service. Here's how you can resolve the issue.

Steps to Fix:

Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup or Wireless Settings.
  • Choose Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the prompts to reconnect the printer to the new Wi-Fi network.

Check Internet Connection:

  • Make sure the modem and internet are working properly.
  • Ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network (same as your computer or mobile device).

Update HP Instant Ink Status:

  • Once the printer is connected to Wi-Fi, it should automatically update the HP Instant Ink status.
  • If it doesn't, you can go to your HP Instant Ink account on the HP website and check for updates or issues.

Restart Printer and Modem:

  • Power off both your printer and modem, then turn them back on after 30 seconds.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  • Follow the prompts to ensure the printer has the latest firmware.

Once connected, your printer should update its status with the HP Instant Ink service and the error message should go away.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
