Common problems for INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Instant Ink. Check out this link: HP INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER. .

I am having the issue where the orange attention light is blinking and nothing will fix it.  I have unplugged the printer and plugged it back in.  It is plugged into the socket directly, not a power strip.  It is not a paper jam and it is not out of ink.  I have restarted my computer and checked for updates.  I have only printed 5 pages with this printer.  I printed the last page a few minutes ago.  Then a couple minutes later went to print something else, and now it doesn't work.

The other funny thing is I found this troubleshooting page at hp.com so I could post my question.  Under "Choose the board that best fits your product issue, question or tip" it defaults to "HP Instant Ink".  There is a drop down menu with other options, but you cannot choose any different option, such as 'printing errors'; it sticks on 'hp instant ink'. It is forcing me to select a category before I can post this, but none of them are correct because it won't update the board!!!!!!  So now I am forced to choose the wrong category.

Hi @coombesm,

Thank you for your response,

If the orange attention light on your HP LaserJet MFP M140we printer is blinking and none of the typical troubleshooting steps have resolved the issue, it may indicate a more specific problem with the printer. Here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

Check for Error Codes: The blinking attention light might be accompanied by an error code on the printer's display panel. Check the printer's manual or HP's support website for the meaning of the specific error code. This can provide more insights into the issue.

Update Firmware: Ensure that the printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually find the latest firmware on the HP support website for your printer model. Updating the firmware may fix any known bugs or issues that could be causing the blinking light.

Perform a Hard Reset: Sometimes, a hard reset can resolve issues related to the printer's internal memory and settings. To perform a hard reset, follow these steps.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back into the power source.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the blinking light persists.

Check Printer Cartridges: Even if you have not used the printer much, it's possible that there might be an issue with the printer cartridges. Make sure they are properly installed, and there are no protective tapes or covers obstructing the ink or toner flow.

Printer Hardware Issues: If none of the above steps resolve the problem, there might be a hardware issue with the printer. In such cases, it's best to contact HP customer support or a certified service technician to diagnose and fix the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
