HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Continuing to get msg on printer's display, connect printer to get instant ink status.  press connect and it churns for a whole then says it can't connect, I need to check connections.  But the printer is connected to the wifi network fine.
Get similar error in HP Smart app, go to account, instant ink, overview,  it churns for a while trying to connect then says it can't,  I need to check connections and try again later.

Hi @DCLJ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that is enrolled in instant ink but has an error that it is not connected to internet.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps from this link to further troubleshoot.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Issue resolved.  Some reason my printer lost it's email address.  So I deleted webservices and started over.  Prinyter acquired new email address then the next morning it connected to instant ink.  Problem solved.  Not sure why the delay in connecting but whatever.  Also don't know why it lost the email address, power interruptions perhaps.
BTW, tried all your recommended steps first.  Already read them here and elsewhere while researching the problem.  Am I frustrated that nowhere does HP say check your email address?  Nah, I'm well acquainted with HP so not at all surprised.
