Hi @Niles4,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer displays the message "The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer" after installing a new ink cartridge, it typically means there’s an issue with the cartridge installation or communication. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:
1. Check Cartridge Installation
Power Off and Unplug:
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source to avoid any electrical issues.
Remove the Cartridge:
- Open the printer’s cartridge access door and carefully remove the new black ink cartridge.
Inspect Cartridge:
- Ensure that the cartridge is not damaged and that all protective tapes or plastic covers have been removed from the cartridge.
Reinstall the Cartridge:
- Reinstall the cartridge by gently placing it into the cartridge slot. Make sure it is securely seated and clicks into place.
Close Access Door:
- Close the cartridge access door and plug the printer back in. Turn the printer back on.
2. Clean Contacts
Remove and Inspect Cartridges:
- Remove the ink cartridge again and check the contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer.
Clean Contacts:
- Use a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the cartridge slot. Allow them to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridge.
3. Check for Compatibility
Verify Cartridge Compatibility:
- Ensure that the ink cartridge is compatible with your specific printer model. Using a cartridge that is not designed for your printer can lead to communication issues.
Check Cartridge Model Number:
- Verify that the cartridge model number matches the one recommended for your printer.
4. Update Printer Firmware
Check for Updates:
- Visit the HP website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model.
Install Updates:
- If there is an update, download and install it according to the instructions on the HP website. Firmware updates can resolve compatibility and communication issues.
5. Perform a Printer Reset
- Reset Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can reset the printer’s internal settings and resolve temporary issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
