Hi, I have had so many problems with ink - use HP93 and 92.  Decided to order right from HP.  Brother spent an hour getting computer to recognize printer. Voila, finally ink that works.  Printed out a page. Now a few weeks later it worked for a line or two then nothing, then light.  This morning tried again.  10 or so words fine then too light to read.  So there must be ink in there - does anyone have any ideas?  I’m not in business just want to be able to type a few letters occasionally.  Thanks for any help.

Hi @Candleflower,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with inconsistent printing issues. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem with your HP printer:

1. Check Ink Levels

  • Confirm Ink Levels: Even if you just replaced the cartridges, check the ink levels to ensure they’re not low.

2. Clean Print Heads

  • Run Print Head Cleaning: Most HP printers have a print head cleaning option in the printer settings or maintenance menu. Run this to help clear any blockages.

3. Perform a Print Quality Diagnostic

  • Print a Diagnostic Page: This can help identify if there are any issues with the cartridges or print head. Check for any patterns or missing lines.

4. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Reinstall Cartridges: Sometimes, cartridges can be misaligned. Remove them and reinstall to ensure they are seated properly.

5. Use Genuine Cartridges

  • Use Original HP Cartridges: Make sure you’re using genuine HP cartridges, as non-genuine ones can sometimes lead to printing issues.

6. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for Updates: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can find updates on the HP support website.

7. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Use the Tool: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix printing issues automatically.

8. Check for Paper Quality

  • Use Suitable Paper: Ensure you’re using the right type of paper for your printer, as this can affect print quality.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks Rachel I’ll see how many of these I can try.   It’s a very old printer and I’m not techy….  But yes I’d think the first thing is to check ink level, but how do I do that?  Would Staples, Office Max, Best Buy etc have that ability?  They are from the HP website.
