HP ENVY 6032e All-in-One Printer

I recently bought an HP Envy printer which takes 305 ink. I mistakenly bought a HP 304 replacement cartridge. I took the ink out of the outer cardboard and pastic wrapping before noticing the error but did not take the ink out of the inside sealed wrapper.  The shop will not change the ink as it is out of the cardboard wrapping. Question is, will my printer work with the 304 ink?  Why does HP have all these different numbers anyway - HP ink is HP ink?

Hi @JohnHX,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP Envy printer that uses 305 ink cartridges will unfortunately not be compatible with a 304 ink cartridge. Each printer model is designed to work with specific cartridges, which are uniquely keyed to fit into the corresponding slots in the printer. These cartridges often contain chips that communicate with the printer, ensuring that the correct cartridge type is used.

HP  use different cartridge numbers to denote cartridges that differ in terms of ink volume, color composition, and compatibility with specific printer models.

You can always purchase correct cartridges from HP. I request you talk to HP sales  Support and they will help you to sort it out as it requires advance support or repair.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
