Hi @Edwardnv

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 6458e Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

While you respond to that, Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Set a manual IP-

To set a manual IP and try the steps below -

--->Touch on the information button (i) on the printer and take down the IP address

--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP

--->then go to network ---> general ---> network protocols ---> select IPV4 only-->apply

--->go to wireless ---> wireless 802.11---> select manual IP ---> apply

--->Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.

--->then go to settings on the main EWS page --> power management ---> select sleep mode to max 15min

If the issue persists, then please follow the steps mentioned in this document: HP Printers - What is Sleep Mode?

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

i have done as you asked the firmware downloaded from your website was the same as the printers running it did not show my printer on it's list probably because there was no difference in version. except for holding the power button all was already done before. im now awaiting the almost certain inevitable freeze the only thing i have not done to the printer is a full reset because i have heard that it causes problems with instant ink. the hp doctor when run set my default printer from the printer to the hp smart app the last run complained about a port mismatch when the printer is frozen hp doctor cant talk to it. i have run hp twice in a row both times it says the same problem has been fixed the second scan show's it hasn't. test print successful hp doctor version 5.7.0

HP Recommended

the printer has frozen again i am doing a factory reset.

"i have completed a factory reset will set the network settings to static ip ect and see how it goes. factory reset done via web interface hopefully the way it needed to be done."

HP Recommended

after factory reset only had 2 crashes one today after a firmware update if the crashes get back to normal frequency i will do another factory reset i know when the printer was first set up i did a firmware update maybe during the updates a setting file gets corrupted or something.

HP Recommended

the crashes are back will do a factory reset if this does not work the printer will be replaced with a brother im done with this one my first hp printer and my last. "reset complete i will see but my frustration with this printer has past my not wanting to pay the 250 or so dollars for the brother inkvestment printer and i hate spending money.

turned printer on this morning this evening come home try to print its crashed and its by far not the first crash since my last post.. my family has made a mistake and got a desk jet hp they had it a week but haven't set it up I'm going to encourage them to set it up so if its trash like my envy they can return it. as for me when i have the time I'm getting a brother there will be no more money wasted on hp.
