Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP 6400e printer. I have discontinued the Insta Ink program, installed standard cartridges and now cannot print. Printer is connected to wifi and shows offline. Suspect I need to disconnect the interface between the ink program and my printer but now sure how? Also, I just spitballing on this. You all may laugh me off the page with a completely different answer. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

Hi @8576309,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's a logical thought to consider the connection between the discontinued Instant Ink program and your printer's behavior. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Ink Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure the standard cartridges you installed are compatible with the HP ENVY 6400e series printer. Look for the correct cartridge model in your printer manual or on the HP website.
  • If the printer doesn't recognize the cartridges, it might still expect Instant Ink cartridges. In this case, proceed with the steps below.

Restart Printer and Network Devices

  1. Turn off your printer.
  2. Restart your Wi-Fi router.
  3. After the router is back online, turn on the printer and reconnect it to the network.
  4. Verify the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Reset the Printer's Network Settings

  1. Press the Wireless button on the printer's control panel until it starts blinking (or access the wireless menu for your model).
  2. Reconnect the printer to your network using the HP Smart App or Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Open the HP Smart App or enter the printer's IP address in a browser.
    • Follow on-screen instructions to connect it to the correct Wi-Fi.

Disable Instant Ink Services

Even after unsubscribing, your printer may still be linked to Instant Ink. Here's how to check:

  1. Log in to your HP Instant Ink account (HP Instant Ink login).
  2. Ensure the subscription is canceled, and there are no pending charges.
  3. Remove the printer from the Instant Ink account:
    • In your Instant Ink account settings, look for an option to "Remove Printer."
  4. Once removed, your printer will no longer check for Instant Ink cartridges.

Set Printer as Default and Check Offline Status

  1. Open Devices and Printers on your computer.
  2. Locate the HP ENVY 6400e printer.
  3. Right-click the printer and ensure Set as Default Printer is selected.
  4. Right-click again, and if you see Use Printer Offline checked, uncheck it.

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

  1. Visit the HP Support website.
  2. Search for the latest firmware and drivers for your HP ENVY 6400e printer.
  3. Install the updates on your computer and ensure the printer is up to date.

Factory Reset (If Needed)

If none of the above steps work:

  1. Perform a factory reset on the printer.
  2. Reconfigure the printer for Wi-Fi and install the standard cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
