I try to gently push the 7900 cartridge into place but it hits a structure that prevents pusing it into place.  Thanks for any help

Hi @Tris76,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer’s ink cartridge is not going fully into place because it is hitting an internal structure. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Power reset the printer
Turn the printer on, then unplug the power cord from the rear while it is still on.
Wait 60 seconds, reconnect the power, and allow the carriage to move to its home position.

Open the cartridge access area carefully
Open the ink cartridge door and wait until the carriage stops moving completely.
Do not try to force the cartridge in while the carriage is moving or partially locked.

Verify the correct cartridge slot
Check that the cartridge is being inserted into the correct color and labeled slot.
Inserting a cartridge into the wrong slot can cause it to hit internal guides.

Inspect the cartridge orientation
Make sure the cartridge is oriented correctly, with the label facing the proper direction.
Remove any protective tape or plastic seals from the cartridge if still present.

Check for obstructions inside the carriage
Using a flashlight, look inside the cartridge bay for broken plastic tabs, packing material, or misaligned guides.
Gently remove any visible obstruction without using sharp tools.

Reseat the carriage by hand (if free to move)
With the printer powered off and unplugged, gently slide the carriage side to side.
If it does not move freely, do not force it, as this indicates a mechanical blockage.

Try another cartridge (if available)
If possible, test with a different cartridge of the same type.
A damaged or swollen cartridge can physically prevent proper insertion.

I hope this helps.
