"Full" Ink Cartridge Dried Out; Printer Never Used

HP DeskJet 3634 All-In-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Bought this printer for elderly parents two years ago.  They left it in the box until now.  Black ink cartridge shows "full" but won't work; tried reviving and nothing helped.  Printer came with free Instant Ink for life (15 pages/month), and I would like to not have to buy the $40 replacement ink cartridge.  Any chance HP would send me one in good faith?  Thanks!
