the black in cartridge that came with my printer on Jan 16 ran out. According to my account details I've only printed 134 pages. (the last 20 of which are illegible). I had to buy a cartridge locally. Now I'm getting messages that it's not an instant ink cartridge. (it is an hp cartridge) and HP can't tell when they need to ship a new cartridge. (Seriously? It shouldn't make a difference where a cartridge comes from as long as it's an HP cartridge.)
Allegedly an instant ink cartridge shipped on 1/18 (a holiday, so 1/19); it should have been here two days ago at the latest. Is the shipping normally this slow?
How will this affect my page counts? If I'm forced to purchase locally because HP can't ship in a timely manner, the pages I print on the locally purchased cartridges shouldn't count toward my total charges.
A cartridge running out this quickly is ridiculous. According to the listing for this cartridge on Amazon I should have gotten approximately 300 pages for this size cartridge. I'm not printing pages that require large swaths of black toner - it's mostly just text documents in black and white.

@thepatternslave, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
- The ink cartridges that go with the printers are setup ink cartridges that are designed to initialize the printer.
- During the initialization of the printer, a large quantity of ink is consumed by the printer to complete the cycle.
- These cartridges also have less amount of ink compared to regular HP ink cartridges.
- If the printer is enrolled in Instant Ink, but you use a regular ink cartridge bought from a store, it will still count the pages printed on the Instant Ink account.
