HP ENVY 6452e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Envoy 6425e AIO. I have had no issues with this printer until yesterday (Nov 4, 26). I went to scan a document and received a message that the HP Smart version I was using would no longer be supported (or something like that) after Jan 2027 and that I had the option to download the new HP Smart now, or on the date in Jan 2027, it would be downloaded automatically. I selected to download it at that time. After installing the new HP Smart driver, I proceeded with the scan that I was going to scan to start with. The scan worked fine and I closed the program. Later I attempted to print a page that I was working on, but I received a message that my printer was in an "error state" and wouldn't print. I've tried several things to correct the issue; powered off and followed the instructions on the new alignment page that it printed after powering back on. I still can't get the printer to print, continually get the "error state" message. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated! (Windows 11 [64-bit]

From your description it sounds like the initial installation of the HP App (replacement for HP Smart) worked but the printer managed to tie itself in knots later.

Sometimes, when the HP (or HP Smart) application balks, a simple Remove from app (remove the printer from the application) and then Add printer might sort whatever is wrong.

If the printer is the source of the problem, try a Printer Reset, that is "Recycle power to the Printer"

Printer will not power on / Printer Power Reset / Printer Reset

HP Inkjet Printers - Printer Does Not Turn On – Power Reset

Section Internal Power Supply

Open ① Recycle Power to the printer

At this writing -- excerpted

Recycle power to the printer

Unplug the printer and then reconnect the printer to reset the power module.

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, power strip, or surge protector.

  3. After the printer has been disconnected for at least 60 seconds, reconnect the power cord to the printer.

  4. Plug the power cord directly into the wall outlet.

  5. Depending on your printer model, use the appropriate steps to start a Power On/Off cycle:

    • Printers with a Power button: Press and release the Power button. Do not hold the button down.

      Note:

If you press and hold the Power button too long, the printer might turn on and then off without restarting. If this happens, press and quickly release the Power button again.

    • Printers with a Power switch: Press the Power switch to the Off position, and then press it to the On position.

  6. If the printer does not turn on, wait 10 seconds, and then press the Power button or reset the Power switch again.

HP -- the company -- has named the new application for your HP computer and HP Printer → HP

<< Important -- 2026 >>

  • HP has replaced the HP Smart application with the HP App on all supported platforms.
  • The HP App is available at the App Store for your supported device (computer, tablet, phone).

  • HP Smart -- the application for used for scan, print, shortcuts, and mobile fax, is now parked inside of the HP App Printer section.
