When running RGS client, both Windows and MacOS versions, I have discovered that the left Shift key has an issue when configuring Avid Media Composer keyboard shortcuts. VNC and Windows Remote Desktop do not experience the issue. This does seem to be highly application specific.

In Avid Media Composer we can customize our keyboard shortcuts. Different shortcuts when using the key native versus when holding down the shift key. In the keyboard configuration window you hold the shift key down to show the alternate keyboard shortcuts and then modify the key. But with RGS holding the left shift key only flashes the alternate shortcuts for a fraction of a second making it impossible to see or modify the shortcuts. But, holding the right shift key does work correctly.

Tested using VNC and Windows Remote Desktop. In both of those remote desktop applications both the left and right shift keys hold the alternate keyboard and allow modifications.

Tested RGS 20.4.2 and 26.02. Same behavior in both.

This does not affect actually using the left shift key during normal application use. Only when trying to configure the keyboard shortcut mappings.

Adding a few things to try.  I think what might be happening is that Setup Mode uses the left shift key to trigger it so here are a couple of things that might resolve the problem.

  1. Change the Setup-Mode sequence to not require shift

Or

2.  In the Hotkeys page you can select: Send First Key

Hope this resolves your problem, if not, let me know or reach out to me on the [email protected] email.

Hello Charles

I am attaching my elevation template and would like to see if I can reproduce the behavior.  Please include the version of Avid Media Composer you are seeing this issue with on RGS V26.02 on the template.  Please email me the template at [email protected].  The template exposes more info that I like to share on the forum but will definitely post final solution here when we have one.  The template will be needed for me to elevate to R&D should I not be able to provide a working solution with R&D looking into this.  Please mention this post title in the email.

To help me get setup to some degree, can you tell me what version of Windows you have on your Sender and Receiver as well as the MacOS version you have on your Mac?  What Mac model are you using and if a desktop, are you using a Mac keyboard or standard keyboard?  What version of Avid Media Player?  Can you also provide step by step reproduction or a video of what you are seeing/doing, that sometimes is helpful. That can also be sent to the [email protected] email if not too big, otherwise I will need to create a private drop box (ftp) for you.

Since you have tested 26.02, most likely that is on your Windows and Mac Receiver as the Sender requires a different license that V20.4.2.
