Hello,

I have had the HP RGS app working for weeks on my laptop. Suddenly, possibly after a MS update it will no longer launch. When the task manager is open monitoring running apps I can see the ZCentral Remote Boost Receiver appear for s split second then disappear.
Any suggestions what to check?

Hi DennisBednarski,

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are facing an issue with your computer, I am glad to assist you today.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with the HP ZCentral Remote Boost (formerly known as HP RGS) app where it momentarily appears in Task Manager but fails to stay open. This can be frustrating, especially if it was working fine before and possibly stopped functioning after a Windows update. Here are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve this issue:

1. Check for Updates:

**A. Update HP ZCentral Remote Boost:

  • Ensure that you are using the latest version of the HP ZCentral Remote Boost Receiver. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest version if needed.

**B. Windows Updates:

  • Check if there are any new updates for Windows that might address compatibility issues. Go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update and install any pending updates.

2. Run as Administrator:

  • Try running the HP ZCentral Remote Boost Receiver as an administrator. Right-click the application icon and select Run as administrator.

3. Check Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the application is compatible with the current version of Windows you are using. You might need to run the application in compatibility mode:
    1. Right-click the application shortcut and select Properties.
    2. Go to the Compatibility tab.
    3. Check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select a previous version of Windows.

4. Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Sometimes other software can conflict with HP ZCentral Remote Boost. Temporarily disable or uninstall any recently installed software that could be interfering.

5. Reinstall HP ZCentral Remote Boost:

  • Uninstall the HP ZCentral Remote Boost Receiver completely and then reinstall it. This can help if there was a corruption or configuration issue.
    1. Go to Control Panel → Programs and Features and uninstall the application.
    2. Reboot your computer.
    3. Download the latest version from the HP website and install it.

6. Check Event Viewer:

  • Look in the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages or logs related to the HP ZCentral Remote Boost Receiver:
    1. Press Win + R, type eventvwr, and press Enter.
    2. In the Event Viewer, go to Windows Logs → Application and look for any errors related to the application.

7. Antivirus and Firewall Settings:

  • Ensure that your antivirus or firewall is not blocking the HP ZCentral Remote Boost Receiver. You might need to add an exception for the application.

8. System File Check:

  • Run a system file check to ensure that there are no corrupted system files:
    1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    2. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
    3. Allow the scan to complete and follow any instructions provided.

9. Check for Background Processes:

  • Ensure that no other processes are interfering. Sometimes background processes or services might cause issues. Check Task Manager for any unusual activity or processes related to HP ZCentral Remote Boost.

10. Contact HP Support:

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider contacting HP Support for more specialized assistance. They might have additional insights or fixes for the issue.

These steps should help you diagnose and potentially resolve the issue with the HP ZCentral Remote Boost Receiver. If the problem persists after trying these solutions, providing specific error messages or additional context might help in pinpointing the problem more accurately.

Hello,

Can you provide version of Remote Boost you are using on your Receiver?

Also, what OS you have on your Receiver(build/version).  I would like to capture some

logs, but would prefer to do that offline.  Can you reach out to me at zcentral@hp.com

I have attached my elevation template, please attach it to the email.  It will tell me

everything I need to know.
