HP Deskjet 2132

Upon trying to print today the black ink light on my HP Deskjet 2132 started flashing, which seemed weird as I've only recently put in a new black ink cartridge and have printed only a handful of pages. I couldn't run any diagnostics or anything as the printer kept saying "device busy" but a family member who I live with currently offered to let me try their ink cartridge from their printer. This didn't do anything, the printer still said that the black ink cartridge was empty and the light still flashed and yet they were fully able to print from their printer using their ink cartridge. I've followed all the advice I could find online about restarting it and checking the cartridge wasn't dirty but I've had absolutely no joy. I really like this printer and rely on it for my work and such so if there's anything anyone can suggest I'd be willing to try it. Thanks!

@3802,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the printer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While you respond to that, I recommend you follow the below steps and check whether the issue is resolved.

1.With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

2.Remove USB cable, if present.

3.Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

4.Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

5.Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

The last time I used it was sometime in November and it was working fine then, can't have been more than a couple of weeks. I've not made any changes either software or hardware and I'm unable to do much in the way of troubleshooting as everytime I try to print a diagnostic page or align the cartridges I get a "device busy" message. I've also already followed the steps you have detailed and the ones you link to before posting. Nothing works, the black ink light still flashes afterwards.
