What is the proper way to dispose of a broken multi-function printer? Is there memory in these devices that needs to be wiped or destroyed somehow?

@Cinwest, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

The printer has no memory and does not store print jobs or faxes or any user data. To know how to recycle the printer, refer to this document.
