HP Officejet 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Our building just upgraded the network access to a more secure router for the whole building.  Use to be on a wireless set up but now had to buy a network adapter and plug in my printer to get access due to higher security requirements.  However, now we folks on the same floor printing to our printer in our office.  I have selected "no network sharing" in the advanced sharing options but they still have access.  Can someone give me specific steps on how to restrict access to our printer on a wired network.

Thanks,

Not sure if restrictions are offered on the 8610, but if you look in the security section check for a feature called access control, this is accessed through the embedded webserver. The are gaining access directly not through your workstation so turning off sharing does nothing to stop them from printing. They need to be restricted either physically through a firewall or router or through settings on the printer.

So I need to look for restrictions  on the firewall or router on the actually printer touchscreen menu and not the Web application for the HP Printer..right?

Thanks,

Hi,

You may look for these settings within the Embedded Web Site (EWS) of your printer.

Print a Network Configuration Page and locate the printer’s IP address, then browse that address from your computer:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8610-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5367603/model...

Within the Network tab of the EWS page look for access control or Firewall section and carefully review the options to limit any access from the printer side.

If no such options appears within the Network tab, a such cannot be configured by the printer, but only depends on your network configuration.
