When I replaced my ink cartridges and installed the new yellow one, I keep getting a message that states, " Incompatible Ink Cartridges - The following cartridges are not intended for use in this printer."  My printer has always used Printer Cartridges 950 and 951. The only difference that I see from my previous printer cartridge and the new one is the code on the top right of the cartridge. My old cartridge was CN048A  and my new NONWORKING cartridge is CN052AN.  I have tried to reset the printer, uninstalled the printer and downloaded the newest software, reset the printerhead.  It seems like the newest cartridges aren't the same as the old ones. UGHH!

Hi @scooby8977,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with printing after replacing the ink cartridge. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

This issue could occur if the electrical contacts on the cartridge or the printer are defective.

Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you in the link: HP Officejet Pro 251dw, 276dw, and 8600 Printer Series - An 'Ink Cartridge Failure,' 'Incompatible I...

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

I followed all of the steps for the hard reset. Returned all of the ink cartridges in the carriage. Same error message-Incompatible ink cartridge. Previously, I had purchased another new yellow HP ink cartridge and got the same message, so I ordered this new cartridge. After the hard reset, I cleaned the ink cartridge electronic component contact with a lint free cloth. Same error message. I cleaned the contact 3 more times and still got the same message. When I put in the old cartridge, I get a message that it's empty, and it is so it is not a problem with the printhead. The problem appears to be with the newest HP yellow ink cartridge. It appears that there is a small change in the newest cartridges and now are incompatible.
