Product: HP 309a
Operating System: macOS 10.12 Sierra

I have an HP 309a printer that has been a good printer with no problems until recently.  Now I keep getting clear paper jam error. Have tried all the solutions I can find online including reset back to original factor settings. After that reset, screen gave cartridge jam error, but as soon as I pressed copy function it went back to clear paper jam error. Cartridge does not move from docked position.

Hi @SueZ22

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you. I'm afraid this seems like a hardware issue with the printer as the print carriage does not move. Let us try these steps:

 

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Refer to this document to know how to clear a paper jam in the printer.
