HP Envy 7855

I just installed a new black HP ink cartridge (purchased from Target) and I keep getting a message to "remove and reinstall the indicated cartridge, making sure it is correctly installed."  I tried taking it out and putting it back several times and it didn't work and then I tried to reboot the print as described in other questions and answers here and nothing is working.

@JenniS1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Have you tried inserting the old Black ink cartridge and check if the error persists?

Remove the Black ink cartridge and try making a color copy in single-cartridge mode and check if that works.

Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Perform step 2 and 3 mentioned in this document.

Let me know how this goes.

I went out yesterday and bought another new ink cartridge to try because my kids needed to do their schoolwork.  The new cartridge is now working so it must have been a problem with the other cartridge.  Do you know if I can return this other defective cartridge? Thank you
