my printer is 4 years old, and all of a sudden the black portion of the print quality report is blank. i have installed the latest softward and drivers on my mac os 10.13, cleaned cartridges several times and aligned printer. the black will not print and the alignment fails. the cartridge is over half full and i even tried a different hp 564xl black with no help.

Hi @alankru,
Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums After reading your post I see that you require assistance with printing issues. It will be a delight to assist you here.
Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
For now, it looks like you’ve tried all the steps under the sun to try and fix the issue. You’ve also tried installing a different cartridge and checked and it still does not print in black.
So please contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced as it is a hardware issue with the printer. I am being honest about it with beating around the bush by keeping your best interest in mind.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

I’m having the same problem as the original user had posted. My printer is no longer under warranty. We did experience a brief power outage the night before. It printed at first, but the ink was low and after replacing the black ink it would no longer print. I ran the print quality option which did have black ink throughout the page except in the color box and upon trying the alignment option it failed showing no black ink.
