I have the following HP Z600 and I want to upgrade the CPU from the current Intel Xeon E5520  to E5650, E5660, or X5675 processors. The two basic questions I have are:

  • Is that possible?
  • If so, what exactly do I have to do?

Implicit in those two questions are:

  • Will the chipsets on the motherboard will support the newer processors?
  • Will the current heatsinks for the E5520 CPUs work or will it be necessary to replace them?

Thanks,

Bob

You can upgrade the processor to X5675 on Z600. You need buy the processor from HP or Authorized Service Provider. You need to update the Chipset and BIOS after the processor is replaced. Please make sure the CPU Heatsink Fan size is 80mm x 15mm.

Hello John,

Thanks for contacting HP support forum, I see that you want to know if the processor can be upgraded or not.

Yes, it can be upgraded as they use the same CPU socket  FCLGA1366.

Please find their details processor specification if you are interested.
