m601 & P4015

Hi All,

Anyone know the specific differences between the 1,500 sheet tray for the m601 (CE398A) versus the one for the P4015n (CB523A) ??

I know the CE398A works on both printer models, I would like to know if the difference in both trays is a pin-out configuration or much more. I own the one that fits on the 4015 only and would love to know that I could modify

something basic to make it compatible with both printer models.

I know that the tray physically fits on the m601, I mistakenly install it on that printer a while back, but the tray was not recognized nor did the paper tray lift-up when the printer was powered on.

Thanks,

Dan

Most times when hp comes out with later model printers and offers accessores they will work with older models that have the same pinout. Another example would be the 4200 and 4250 series where the 1500 sheet feeder for the 4250 would work on the 4200 but the 4200 feeder would not work on the 4250. The problem is the control board that is contained on each feeder. The later model control board has firmware built in that will accomadate connections to the dc controller of whatever printer they are connected. The firmware on the older model feeder just can not communicate with the dc controller of the newer printer. Unfortunately hp does not provide a part number nor do they provide a replacement part for the control  board. I once had a customer who had a feeder for the 4350 which had a bad pickup assembly and looked like it would be very very difficult to repair. I happened to have a 4200 feeder which worked fine but would not work with the 4350. I moved the board from the bad 4350 feeder to my working 4200 feeder and presto it now worked with the 4350.

Thanks, I will look for the PC Board,

I have both service manuals, the m601 shows part number RM1-8303-000CN.

Worth a try.  🙂

Missed the part in the manual. If you go to the link below there is a picture of the part so if you open the side cover of the 4015 feeder you can compare the connectors which in my mind will almost certaintly be the same.

List price for the part from  HP is 66.58

Below is aftermarket source.
