P4015 printer
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

One of the printers on our network is a HP P4015 printer with a second paper drawer and duplex unit.  The printer has been working fine for a number of years, but last year we started getting the 49.FF04 error when the printer would go to sleep, if we turned the printer on and off it would clear the error, but would comeback if it went to sleep.  We were finally able to clear the error when we removed the second paper drawer and duplex unit and reinstalled the firmware before reattaching the two accessories.

The 49.FF04 error started again a few weeks ago, and a user was able to temporarily fix the issue by turning off the RAM disk, but the error code started again after about a week.  This week we tried the following with no success in fixing the error code permanently:

  1. Disconnecting second paper drawer and duplex unit and reinstalled frimware before reattaching
  2. Turning off RAM disk
  3. Change sleep delay from 30 minutes to 4 hours (error code showed on printer in less than 4 hours)

Is there any way to determine the exact cause of this error code and how to fix permanently?

Thank you

The printers event log should give you a description of the error.  Access via printers WebGUI.

99% of 49 errors will be resolved by updating the firmware to the current code.
